Groovy Classroom

I'm using my favorite 60's-70's theme for my classroom this year again. I have many new ideas including these really darling paper plate creations. Can't you just see them in psychedelic colors?
I found them on One Pretty Thing and then linked to the directions. Creative Jewish Mom
makes some really great things. I'm really enjoying her site.

D.I.Y.D. by Kimba, Welcome

This is my first post in so long. I hope you enjoy it, and leave me a message. I've been visiting blogs, but have had little time to do anything with mine. I decided to take the plunge and link up to Do It Yourself Day hosted by Kimba. I do all my own decorating. I purchased a large metal tray last summer. It was scratched and the paint was wearing off. I've since lost the before picture. Trust me it was ugly. First, I painted it black and tried to do a mosaic effect with paper. Hated IT!
Last week I took Valspar spray paint, and transformed it to a creamy white. Almost like Heirloom white. I decoupaged scrapbook paper to it from HL. Added some ribbon. And wow, I really like it. What do you think?
It sits on a Chinese chest that I inherited from my Grandfather.
The little plate above it, is milk glass from my grandmother.
Picked up the serenity prayed from Kohl's

Now I need to add some decorations on the tray. Any suggestions? it's in by bedroom. The walls are a softer blue than they appear in the photos. Thank you for visiting, I'll try to be a better blogger. School starts in two weeks and I appear to manage my time better then. Plus I enjoy writing about my classroom also.

Obama Craft

Hi, the kiddos are working on a Obama craft. It's his symbol for the campaign. Do you remember it? A simplified version is mention in a previous post.
On the funny side. Do you know about the Califone talking card machines? You know the one... it reads cards with a cassette tape strip at the bottom, or you can record your own words. Great for site word learning. Well ours "did not work". Did you know there was a battery compartment under it and an on off switch for the record function? Well, there is and ours was off. Who knew. We're in business now! LOL

Really Cute President Obama Crafts

Here are some really cute crafts for President Obama's Inauguration Day. I am planning on two of them. Kaboose is a great web site full of good information also.

I enlarged the picture of Obama so it fills more of a post size piece of paper. I'm going to allow the kids to add starts as they wish also. We use scapbooking punches for the stars.

I also enlarged this craft. Although it is cute on the plate, I wanted to make it more age appropriate because I teach middle school. We will make larger ones with tissue paper and tag board.

Cute Fall Project

I visited the Crafty Crow again and saw these cute fall weavings. It would make a great sidewalk field trip to collect the items. Also a great way to use up some yarn.

Busy Start to The Year.

As you all know the start of the school year is a very busy time of the year. Along with new students we had new email, new Office Word 2007, and a new IEP program. I've also started an on-line course at Ball State University. Yikes!
We are much more settled in the classroom. I'll be sharing photos soon. Now, with some breathing room, I have started to search for some cute art activities. I found a wonderful blog called The Crafty Crow. She features art projects for children and boy are they cute! So unique! Here are some of her current projects. I'm planning to try some of them in my room. Enjoy her blog.
